How this roof cost calculator works
The calculator converts your home's living area into an estimated roof area. It divides by the number of stories to approximate the footprint, adds about 12% for overhangs, then multiplies by a slope factor for your pitch. It then applies a 2026 installed-price range per square foot for the material you choose, adjusts labor for steep or multi-story roofs, and adds tear-off for extra layers and any decking you expect to replace.
Typical roof replacement costs in Katy, TX
For a typical two-story Katy home with 2,400 to 3,200 square feet of roof area, architectural shingles are the most common choice and usually land in the low-to-mid five figures. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles cost a bit more, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Standing-seam metal costs roughly double but can last 40 to 50 years. What the calculator can't see
- Complex roofs with many valleys, dormers and hips take more labor and material
- Hidden rotted decking only shows up during tear-off
- Code-required upgrades such as drip edge, ventilation and ice-and-water shield
- HOA material or color requirements in communities like Cinco Ranch and Cross Creek Ranch
